CO2 therapeutic foot bath units are currently being used on a trial basis in Japan for the treatment of diabetic foot. These studies have yielded a number of interesting findings. The three reports given here present results from several studies on the use of CO2 therapeutic foot bath units.

Treatment using natural carbon dioxide springs was common in Germany long before treatment with artificial CO2-enriched water began in Japan. The two articles presented here describe findings on the general benefits of bathing in carbon dioxide springs and the physiological and clinical effects of CO2 balneotherapy.
